The weekend of November 21-23 was a very busy one at St. John’s Lutheran Church, Williston Park.
On Friday evening and Saturday morning the Youth Group led by Amy Fisher and J.P. Wicks baked Thanksgiving pies as a fundraiser. The Fellowship Hall was filled with laughter and the delicious aroma of fresh baked apple, pumpkin and pecan pies.
Saturday was also “Clean Up Day”. The Boy Scouts of Troop #200 service project helped rake leaves and groom the church grounds. With many thanks to their efforts against the cold air and strong winds, over 20 bags of leaves were collected.
On Sunday the traditional Worship and Sunday School were held in the morning but the busy weekend was not yet complete. Sunday evening over 40 church members gathered. Church members led by Audrey Grill and Bev DeVoe distributed door hangers announcing Christmas services to community residents. Following a pizza party to revive the group, the monthly “Fun and Fellowship” was held. Members of all ages had a wonderful time making Advent Wreaths. Christmas Wreaths were also available to decorate. Creative talent was displayed along with lots of laughter. It was a terrific end to a wonderful weekend preparing for Christmas.
For December St. John’s will be hosting a Christmas Carol Sing-a-Long on Sunday December 14th 3pm-5pm. This event is free and open to all members of the community. St. John’s is located in Williston Part at the intersection of Willis Avenue and Cornell St. Come and join us. Rest, Relax, and have fun. Sing, hum, or just listen to traditional carols celebrating the birth of Jesus. We also invite you Christmas Eve at 5pm for a Family Service or at 7:30pm & 11:00pm for Candlelight Services.
